Panchang

Panchang (means five) is the system that is used for chosing favorable times to start certain events.
The following factors are considered:

  1. Day of the week.
  2. Nakshatra (the position of the Moon).
  3. Tithi. Tithi is a lunar day (like New Moon, Full Moon, day after New Moon, etc.). There are 30 Tithis.
  4. Karana. Karana is half of Tithi. There are 60 Karanas.
  5. Yoga. Yoga is determined by the position of the Sun and the Moon.

When all 5 factors are favorable for the particular event, than it is most likely that it will be successful.
